Designing a freestanding building in the exposed wilderness means a total embracement of natural scenery but simultaneously sheltering from the harsh Tasmanian weather.
When a Chinese hand fan is opened a panoramic view or image is revealed. The “Fan house” is generated through radiating boxes of rooms from an anchor point like a fan to capture segments of views in each room.
The scenery is slowly revealed as one progresses from the entrance to the hallway.
The dramatic skillion ceiling in the main living space floods the eye with framed country and upon arrival to the deck, the body is totally embraced by their surroundings.
Sunlight intake and thermal mass from the blockwork were carefully planned to regulate indoor temperature for the whole day, every day.
Though odd in shape, spaces are arranged concisely to make sure each and every corner is usable.
